DEI means common sense. Everyone treats everyone in the same positive way. It's 2-way, it cannot be that one gets treated differently to another.
If there is an inadvertent negative comment about age, gender or ethnicity, then point it out to the person without getting upset and causing an issue – not everyone is fully aware of cultural, gender, or age differences.
This is why the company must have a policy and educate the workforce accordingly.
